Dishwasher and glasswashers are integral machines in any busy kitchen. Purchasing the correct machine for your business is hugely important to ensure continued uninterrupted service and reduced labour costs in the kitchen.
Ther are many different types of dishwashers, from undercounter to pass-through and rack conveyors, each machine designed for a different task.
One of the most commonly asked questions relating to these types of machines is “Do I need a drain pump” or “What is a drain pump?”.
A drain pump for a dishwasher or glasswasher is only required if the waste pipe in your premises, that the waste water from the washer empties into, is above the outlet on the dishwasher or glasswasher. If the waste pipe is above the outlet on the machine then gravity alone wont be able to drain the machine of all its dirty water after a cycle and so a drain pump would be required.
A drain pump is not required for a dishwasher or glasswasher of the waste water pipe that the water from the machine empties into is below the outlet on the machine. If the waste pipe is below the outlet on the machine then gravity will ensure that all the dirty water from the cycle is drained from the machine and so there is no need for the added expense of an drain pump.
Another solution to a drain pump is to place the washer on a stand to raise its height so that the outlet now becomes higher than the waste pipe. This will solve the problem of requiring a drain pump.
